The Forever Reef Project is officially opening the doors to its Living Coral Biobank at the Cairns Aquarium. The facility marks the world’s first reef backup facility for Great Barrier Reef coral biodiversity threatened by mass bleaching events and will act as a ‘coral ark’ for reef research and conservation efforts.
The facility will also help educate Australians and the world about the importance of coral and the need to maintain and preserve the biodiversity of coral populations by becoming the world’s first publicly accessible coral biobank open to tourism.
