A state-of-the-art Ophthalmic Research Biorepository, to store collections of human tissue for future research on disease mechanisms, therapeutics, and diagnostics, was thrown-open at L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) campus.
The biorepository has been established with generous support from Prof Krothapalli Ravindranath, retired Dean, SV University, Tirupati. The new facility is on par with international standards. It is well equipped with infrastructure required for cryopreservation or storage of ophthalmic tissues in -80 degrees Celsius, -20 degree Celsius and 4 degree Celsius freezers, liquid nitrogen for snap freezing, and specially trained technical staff for handling the samples.
